First Post - Tapping the Keg

  Posted on July 1st, 2009

Let’s kick this off, shall we?

Welcome to the Reinheitsgeblog.  Hopefully I didn’t pick a too upronouncable name.  If you’re here, it’s probably because I invited you and you know me already.  If not, my name is Tim, I’m 23, I live in Arlington, VA. and I drink beer.  That should be qualification enough for a blog.

I decided to start this blog mostly to keep track of my own tasting notes.  I tend to forget what I’ve tried - and what I’ve liked.  So hopefully this will be an ongoing record of my drinking history, for better or worse.  And if I can educate a few people along the way, well then awesome.

Hey, let’s have some FAQs:

What the hell is a Reinheitsgeblog?
It’s a pun on the Reinheitsgebot, the German Purity Law. I wanted a clever name and this was more appropriate than ‘Amber Alert’.

So, you think you know beer?
I like to think so. I’m the guy my friends go to when they want a beer recommendation, so I decided to bring that knowledge to the internet. Maybe some people will read it.

I don’t care what your personal taste is, why should I read this blog?
Well I try to be as impartial as possible. My articles won’t consist simply of “this is great!” or “this tastes like ass!” I’ll do what I can do describe the flavors and let you make up your mind about it’s quality. I’ll also go beyond my own tasting experience and talk a bit about the history of the brewery, the beer, the style, and whatever other cool trivia I can dig up. All for you, the loyal reader.

I hate beer.
I’ll do what I can to change that.

That’s all for now. I’ll add or subtract as I see fit. The next post will be a real one. Stay tuned!

    Welcome to the beerosphere!

I’m only across the river in Maryland. Welcome to the neighborhood.

Funny coincidence: when tossing about names for the beer blog carnival (what would later come to be known as “The Session”) one of my suggestions was “reinheitsgeblog”.
